Kubra Duran

Kubra Duran is a Senior PhD Candidate within the School of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment (SCEBE) at Edinburgh Napier University, UK. Before joining Napier, she was a PhD candidate at Istanbul Technical University (ITU), Turkey, from 2021 to 2023. She received her MSc in Computer Engineering from ITU in 2021 and her BSc in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Eskisehir Osmangazi University, Turkey, in 2016. She was an Erasmus exchange student at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), Hungary, from 2014 to 2015. Her main research areas are Digital Twin Networks, Intelligent Internet of Things, and AI-based Green Network Management. She has five years of experience in the telecommunications sector. She has been actively involved in several conferences as an Organizing Committee Member and a TPC Member. She served as General Co-Chair of the Systems and Technologies for IT/OT Integration in Industry 4/5.0 Environments (SITE) Workshop at IEEE CAMAD 2024 and IEEE CAMAD 2025, and as a TPC Member at IEEE CAMAD 2023, IEEE GLOBECOM 2023, IEEE ICC 2024, IEEE BCCA 2024, IEEE WCNC 2024, IEEE ISCC 2025, and IEEE PIMRC 2025. She is the recipient of consecutive Best Paper Awards in 2023 and 2024 for her IEEE Transactions publications, granted by SCEBE. She received the Best MSc Thesis Award in 2021 from both the IEEE Communications Society Turkey Chapter and the IEEE Computer Society Turkey Chapter. During her PhD, she was awarded the prestigious Google DeepMind Scholarship, granted only to highly successful female researchers working in AI and communications. She serves as a reviewer for IEEE Communications Surveys & Tutorials, IEEE Transactions on Cognitive Communications and Networking, IEEE Network Magazine, and Elsevier Communications Networks.




Berk Canberk

Berk Canberk is a Full Professor at Edinburgh Napier University, UK. His research focuses on AI-powered Digital Twins, IoT communication, and Smart Wireless Networks, spanning Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 1 to 6. As a leading expert in Digital Twin technologies, he specializes in real-time synchronization, AI-driven orchestration, and semantic communication frameworks. He leads the Broadband Communication Research Group (www.bcrg.uk) with 5 PhD students, 1 postdoctoral researcher, 2 research associates, 1 visiting professor, and 1 visiting MSc student. He has previously supervised 7 PhD and 21 MSc graduates. His publication record includes more than 94 journal articles, 98 conference papers, and 22 patents, of which 41 journal articles, 39 conference papers, and 17 patents are specifically focused on Digital Twins. Since 2020, he has secured over £3.6M in research funding as Principal Investigator. He serves as Lead Editor of the IEEE ComSoc Best Readings in Digital Twins and as Area Editor for IEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorials. He has also served as Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, Elsevier Computer Networks, and IEEE Communications Letters, and has taken on key roles as General Chair, TPC Chair and Organizing Committee Member at several IEEE conferences. Prior to his current position, he was a Full Professor at Istanbul Technical University (ITU), where he served as Associate Professor (2016–2021) and Full Professor (2021–2022) in the Department of Computer Engineering. He was previously a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Georgia Institute of Technology, USA. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from ITU, an MSc in Telecommunications Engineering from Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, and a BSc in Electrical Engineering from ITU.


Octavia Dobre

Octavia Dobre is a Professor and Canada Research Chair Tier 1 with Memorial University, Canada. She was a Visiting Professor with Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA and Université de Bretagne Occidentale, France. Her research interests encompass wireless communication and networking technologies, as well as optical and underwater communications. She has (co-)authored over 500 refereed papers in these areas. Dr. Dobre serves as the VP Publications of the IEEE Communications Society. She was the inaugural Editor-in-Chief (EiC) of the IEEE Open Journal of the Communications Society and the EiC of the IEEE Communications Letters. Dr. Dobre was a Fulbright Scholar, Royal Society Scholar, and Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Communications Society. She obtained Best Paper Awards at various conferences, including IEEE ICC, IEEE Globecom, IEEE WCNC, and IEEE PIMRC. Dr. Dobre is an elected member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, a Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada, and a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering.
